They’re just awesome dots

They’re just awesome dots

They’re just awesome dots I’m a white guy. Really white.  Not quite albino in complexion, but I am severely lacking in melanin. My sister doesn’t have this problem.  She can tan.  She is tan.  My wife can also tan.  Genetics would seem to favor my children being able to tan, too.  They can’t Both boys are just as white as me. The whiteness of our skin gives birth to plenty of freckles.  My youngest son is two and the … Read entire article »

Daybreak USA interview with Kevin Renner

Daybreak USA interview with Kevin Renner

In the past week or so, I’ve had an e-mail dialogue with Kevin Renner, author of the book In Search of Fatherhood.  He impressed me with his genuine nature, and even though I have not read his book yet (it is in my queue now) I wanted to pass along some information concerning Kevin and his book. Obviously, the link in the above paragraph takes you to his site.  Also, here is a link to a … Read entire article »

Improvised Explosive Devices and My Journey

My wife has seen that reaction from time to time.  I’m driving.  Everything is fine and then I spot something strange.  It could be a piece of trash or just a rock.  A cold chill shoots down my spine and reverberates throughout my body. This, my friends, is what happens under convoy security stress for a year or more. I appreciate all my brothers and sisters in arms.  This video is a reminder what many have endured. Post traumatic stress disorder is real, folks. … Read entire article »

Thoughts on being a one income family (single income family)…

Thoughts on being a one income family (single income family)… Our family has survived on a single income for its entire existence (8 years and counting).  For the longest time, I thought this meant me simply working one job.  I’ve since matured financially to understand that you should never be a one-income family, even if only one person is working at a single job. A recent study by Families and Work Institute shows that 79 percent of … Read entire article »

The kind of thing that sneaks up on you…

The kind of thing that sneaks up on you… Yesterday, as finals approached and research papers were coming due, something else was sneaking up on me.  There were no scary boogeymen or, since summer is upon us, no creepy, crawly bugs.  No, this was something I should have seen coming a long time ago but I have been self absorbed. There are other people’s kids in my house all the time now. Jalen is six years old and finishing up his kindergarten year.  He’s made more friends in the last year than I think he has made in all previous years of his life combined.  When he has a birthday party now, strange people and their children are here.  When the weekend arrives, there are neighbor kids here. It happened gradually over time, … Read entire article »

A Dad Gets His Wrestlemania Party

A Dad Gets His Wrestlemania Party

A Dad Gets His Wrestlemania Party Spending time with friends is a luxury for this husband, father-of-two, blogger, full-time student, and full-time worker.  The number of local pro wrestling fan friends is few, too…  and being dads themselves makes it hard to get on the same page.  Even though pro wrestling get togethers are hard to come by here in my neck of the woods,  I still managed to get together on April Fools Day with … Read entire article »

“I can’t wait to be a daddy.” (What children say)

“I can’t wait to be a daddy.” (What children say)

“I can’t wait to be a daddy.” (What children say) Regardless of cliches, kids do, in fact, say the darnedest things.  As a father, some of these “darnedest” things tend to catch me off guard.  Sometimes something is said and I react inappropriately…  you know, a deep laugh instead of a stern look.  Other times, my smile or laugh is totally appropriate for the circumstance. Recently, my little guy Jalen (six years old now) had one of … Read entire article »

The Do’s and Don’ts of Building a Man Cave

The Do’s and Don’ts of Building a Man Cave

The Do’s and Don’ts of Building a Man Cave Do you remember your childhood tree house? Wasn’t it great to have a space that was all your own, away from the rest of the house, complete with a “No girls allowed!” sign? While in retrospect the sign may have been a mistake, it’s time to take back your space and build your own man cave. Whether that means refinishing the basement or taking over the guest … Read entire article »
