DIY Home Automation: How to Install Your Own Home Automation System

Home automation started with the simple things that may different men and women take for granted today. For example, home automation used to be about TV remote controls, thermostats and cooking timers. Today many men and women use home automation in the form of a computer system that has been centralized. These computer systems can be used to control almost any type of appliance that you have in your house. This is done by connecting the appliances to the main system. Many people have begun to use home automation systems for using entertainment devices and operating security systems.

Installing a Control Module

There are a few different types of control modules that you can install for a home automation system, such as Vivint. For example, some men and women choose to use a module that is network enabled. These types of modules have to be wired manually to your house’s electrical systems. Control modules for home automation systems can normally be found in the basement or the attic. In order to use control modules for home automation you will have to wire the control module to the appliances that you want it to control.

There are other control modules that use the wiring that is already in your house. The only thing that you have to do with this type of control module is plug it into any mains outlet that is in your house.

Simpler control modules use a wireless USB dongle. The wireless USB dongle is plugged into a computer that runs controller software. The USB dongle sends information about the controller to the receivers that are connected to each appliance that you want to control.

Controlling Lights with a Home Automation System

It is possible for you to connect an automation system controller to the lights in your home. For example, lamps that connect to the mains socket can be controlled by inline receiver components. The inline receiver units are plugged into the mains outlet. These units have a socket that can be used for the lamps.

You can replace the switch to main lights with a unit that is enabled with a home automation system in order to control these lights. Before you do this, it is important for you to be safe and turn off the power. After you have done so, you need to remove the screws that are holding the faceplate of the switch on the wall. Unscrew the wires that are connected to the terminal and transfer them to the new switch. If you have any exposed wires, you need to cover them with electrical tape. Screw the faceplate for the new switch in place.

Before you install any home automation device, make sure you read the reviews. You can see Vivint reviews here.

if you want to look into Vivint, it is best to contact a local division of Vivint, such as Huntsville AL Vivint home security and home automation in order to get the best set up for your area.
